Introduction to Peace Making and Restorative Circles

The foundation of CCS Unlimited began when Angela Davis was introduced to the Peace Keeping

Model by Center for Ethical Leadership in 2012 with Saroeum Phoung who currently is the owner of Point One North, and the Dominic Barter by Andrea Brenneke and Susan Partnow, around that same time. Each of these models of restorative circle were different in concept. The Peace Keeping Model is a Native American indigenous and ceremonial healing practice that focuses on the building of relationship, trust and community while the Dominic Barter model was focused on slowing conversations down so that people can listen to each other in a deeper level. Each of these restorative circle models were instrumental in the development of CCS Unlimited. Relationships, community, faith, healing, and the restoration of humanity are essential for the mission and vision of CCS Unlimited.

Restorative Circle Practices Structures

Seattle Restorative Justice started in 2012 with Andrea Brenneke, Susan Partnow, and Angela Davis as co-founders of the organization. That created a foundation with City of Seattle Attorney’s office and pre-filing diversions restorative justice pilot starting with the East Precinct of Seattle SPD. This groundbreaking process created the growth of the current restorative justice process in the criminal justice system in the Pacific Northwest. Seattle Restorative Justice worked with: Interagency School and Bastyr. Seattle Restorative Justice ended in 2012 The concept of a faith-based restorative beacon came from the brilliant and collective strategy that was originally Restore 360 in 2015, with Reco Bembry, of Bembry Consulting Services, and Camisha Fatima and Gentry Business Services. Restore 360 was a three-pronged concept of restorative circles; school based, community based, and faith-based. It was out of this concept that the faith-based idea of walking with the wounded was formed. Each of these phases of healing and restoration in the restorative circle model are the foundations of CCS Unlimited’s faith based restorative concepts.

Formation of the name of CCS Unlimited

The name, Community Connections Seattle Unlimited is deliberate and purpose driven decision.

The purpose of each word forming the company CCS Unlimited is illuminated below:

  1. Community is vital for thriving, healing, and transforming narratives. Many narratives are designed structures that may have been developed outside an authentic lived experience. The African Proverb, “Umbutu, I am because you are, and you are because I am.” is the foundation of community.
  2. Connections can spark positive and negative actions and interactions. These actions and interactions can transcend time, space, and generations. The primary connection in relationship is a spiritual connection that creates a transformative healing balm. That healing balm is forged in community.
  3. Seattle, Washington is the birthplace of the founder of CCS Unlimited, and the corner stone of the profound healing process that birthed restorative circles. Seattle has a unique passive-aggressive way of looking at, solving, or omitting the impact of systemic oppression. The “Black Lives Matter” movement, has transformed some ways of dealing with systemic oppression.
  4. Unlimited is a synonym for the infinite power of God. Universal concepts of humanity’s expressions love, compassion, humanity kindness, patience and peace, are the vastness of and hope. CCS-Unlimited’s focus is on the recognition that each connection to restorative practices leads to understanding that God is greater and infinite in power, presence and can transform our pain, purposes and process into something greater than the work we do individually and collectively.

structure for holacracy, will be the model of functioning.
